Dr. S S Gadkari,MS FRCS (UK) MRCOphth (UK) DNB FCPS DOMS is a practicing Vitreoretina surgeon and Laser specialist of 22 years standing. A meritorious student throughout; he received his undergraduate and post graduate medical training at the prestigious, Seth GS medical college and KEM hospital, Mumbai. He passed his MBBS in 1987 and his MS ophthalmology on first attempt in 1991. He received two gold medals during the course of training in Ophthalmology. He went on to train in UK and was conferred the MRCOphth from the Royal College of Ophthalmologists, London. He received his vitreoretina training from Klaus Heimann in Cologne, Germany.On returning he served as the Head of the Vitreoretina unit at the Ramakrishna Mission Hospital in Bombay which he established, for 3 years. He voluntarily chose to revalidate his ophthalmic training in 2005, 15 years after his initial qualification, by taking the FRCS (Glasgow) Ophthalmology exams. He specializes in vitrectomy for advanced diabetic retinopathy, complicated retinal detachments, management of complications and laser treatments.
