About Genotropin Injection

Somatostatin works by blocking the effects of certain natural hormones in the body such as serotonin and growth hormone. It also decreases bleeding from food pipe by constricting (narrowing) the blood vessels.

Uses of Genotropin Injection

Somatostatin is used in the treatment of acromegaly, carcinoid tumours and bleeding esophageal varices.

Medicinal Benefits of Genotropin Injection

Acromegaly is a condition that is caused by the overproduction of growth hormone from the pituitary gland. Somatostatin helps to reduce the increased levels of growth hormone, restores them to normal and therefore prevents complication of acromegaly such as diabetes or heart diseases. It is given as an injection by a doctor or nurse and should not be self-administered.
