Lipid Profile 1 includes a panel of blood tests to find out abnormalities in lipids, i.e. cholesterol and triglycerides. This package that helps to determine an individual’s risk for heart disease. Apart from total cholesterol, this profile also includes tests like Lipoproteins and Apolipoproteins that give you further details of your heart health. These tests are especially important for people with diabetes or metabolic syndrome.

What is lipid profile?

It is a panel of blood tests that serves as an initial broad medical screening tool for abnormalities in lipids, such as cholesterol and triglycerides. The results of this test can identify certain genetic diseases and can determine approximate risks for cardiovascular disease, certain forms of pancreatitis and other diseases.

Dosage Lipids in our body comprise of Total Cholesterol, High Density Cholesterol (HDL), Low Density Cholesterol (LDL), Very Low Density Cholesterol (VLDL) and Triglycerides. High Density Cholesterol is also known as the good cholesterol that control the level of cholesterol in the blood and removes the bad cholesterol and deposits in the liver for reuse and recycling. LDL is also known as the bad cholesterol and a good ratio of HDL and LDL is considered healthy. Low levels of apo A-I, along with high concentrations of apo B, are associated with an increased risk of cardiovascular disease. High Lp(a) can occur in people with a normal lipid profile. An elevated level of Lp(a) is correlated to risk of heart disease independently of other lipids. The lipid profile is used as part of a cardiac risk assessment to help determine an individual's risk of heart disease and to help make decisions about what treatment may be best if there is borderline or high risk.
