Usually patients do not realize they may be suffering from osteoporosis and weak bones unless they have had a sudden strain or a fracture. These tests determine whether a person has osteoporosis, are at risk of developing the disease. It also helps to diagnose low bone mass.
Ca, P, Alkaline Phosphatase-Total, DPD
Calcium and Phsophorus are co-dependent for bone health and for building bone mass. It serves as a first line test to rule out deficiency that could be leading to osteoporosis Alkaline phosphatase (ALP) - to test for increased levels that may point to a problem with the bones. DPD: Deoxypyridinoline is a bone resorption test that tells about the rate of bone loss
