9 Finger Foods for Babies
Banana slices:-Simply freeze a whole banana (in its skin), then peel it and immediately mash it into babys bowl. This makes a cooling and healthy treat in the summer – or a great gum numb-er if your baby is teething!
Cooked peas:-These wonderful little vegetables are a great first “green” food for baby as they are nutritious, and mostly pleasant to eat. When making homemade peas for baby, you may find it tough getting the “skins” to puree smoothly. If this is the case and your baby is not used to textures yet, you might wish to run them through a strainer or sieve.
Small, peeled peach chunks:-Many pediatricians recommend that babies may begin to eat Peaches anywhere from 4 to 6 (six) months old. For those that start their babies on solid foods earlier than the recommended 6 months of age, peaches are an easy to digest first food for those between 4-6 months of age. Peaches are yummy, sweet and juicy.
Cooked lentils:- Lentils are a healthy baby food as they contain Iron, Protein, and are high in Fiber. Lentils also contain a myriad of minerals as well as B Vitamins. This tiny little legume will offer your growing baby a lot of important nutrients.
Macaroni or other cut-up cooked pasta:-Pasta is typically introduced to baby from 8 months of age. As most pasta is made from wheat, it is recommended that those with a history of wheat allergy and/or gluten intolerance not eat pasta or introduce it until much later.
Cooked carrot slices:-Carrots may be introduced between 6 and 8 months of age.Carrots are often one of baby’s first food. They are easy to digest and are packed full of nutrients such as Vitamin A, Vitamin C and Calcium.
Small tofu cubes:-Tofu is a very versatile food and can be eaten raw, baked, sauteed and incorporated into soups, broths and grain dishes. Tofu makes a Baby Finger Food for little ones and may also serve a substitute for meats. Tofu (along with other protein sources such as meats) is typically begun around 8 months old as it may be more difficult to digest.
Cheese slices:-Cheese is very good for baby and provides calcium, “good” fats and protein too. You can introduce cheese to your baby by offering the lighter tasting cheeses (Colby, Jack, Mild Cheddar) and also by offering her cottage cheese. Cottage cheese can be a really fun and tasty finger food for babies.
Small bites of Fish:-Except for shellfish, you can serve your baby puréed or mashed fish as early as 6 months when he starts eating solids. Fish may seem like a "grown-up" food, but it is the ideal fare for infants.
