Etanercept blocks the action of certain chemical messengers that are responsible for inflammation, swelling, and redness associated with certain joint diseases. Etanercept is used in the treatment of ankylosing spondylitis, rheumatoid arthritis, psoriasis, ulcerative colitis, and Crohn’s disease.

Directions for Use

• Etanercept is given by injection under the skin (subcutaneous injection). You, a friend, or a family member can be taught how to give the injections.
• Some people feel better quite quickly after receiving the injection while others may take longer. Keep taking your medication.
• Etanercept could make it harder for you to fight infections. It is best to stop taking Etanercept if you have a fever or think you have an infection or have been given antibiotics to treat an infection.
• Have a tuberculosis skin test & chest x-ray done before starting Etanercept.
• Get blood tests done regularly to keep a track of your arthritis and make sure that Etanercept is not affecting your blood counts.
