He was the first surgeon to perform almost every type of advanced laparoscopic surgery in the State. He has also pioneered hand-assisted laparoscopic surgery in the country. He was also a part of the pioneering team in India in Bariatric Surgery, headed by Dr. Sunil Sharma, which performed the first Laparoscopic Roux-en-Y Gastric Bypass surgery in India.He established the world renowned Bangalore Endoscopic Surgery Training Institute & Research Centre, through which he has trained over 600 practising surgeons from 5 continents and has been involved in several innovations including BEST endotrainer, Virtual Reality Laparoscopic Surgery Simulator, and Circulation pump, used for training in Minimal Invasive Surgery.
